Beihai Lake is located in the southernmost region of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China. The lake itself is 772 km (470 mi) long and 6.3 km (4 mi) wide, with total water volume of 6.12 km3 (0.22 cu mi, 169,000 acre-feet). It is made up of fresh water and carries a great deal of oxygen to the surrounding area, which is mostly desert. The lake also provides drinking water to the surrounding region.

Beihai has an average depth of 3 m (9 ft) and an average width of 31 m (102 ft). The largest island in Beihai Lake is known as Xilong Island with an area of 114 ha (295 acres). The lake was formed when damming up the Li River in 1955.
